We recommend that you use the .au extension indicating that you are in Australia as this will allow you to be found on search engines when people looking for you click on the AU or Australian only selection.
The .au extension has a more critical selection criteria and you are limited to use either your registered business name, your own name or a name that describes your business activities. We recommend strongly that you use a registered business name and if you would like to use a different name then it would be advisable to register this first with the Department of Fair trading.
